It is with profound gratitude and pleasure that we are witnessing the publication of the first edition of The Legacy e-newsletter, an idea of the current Board of Trustees of the Makerere University Endowment Fund. We are convinced that The Legacy will be a vital communication tool that will enable the university to reach out to its over 400,000 alumni strewn all over the world, in their own right as national and global practitioners in governance, academia, business, philanthropy, and diplomacy.
The Legacy e-newsletter is helping the Endowment Fund execute the alumni engagement module to purposely produce and disseminate content about what’s happening at the university; profile Makerere’s alumni; and allow the alumni to share and connect with their alma mater.
Alumni engagement is a key component of the Endowment Fund’s strategic aspirations and thus remains a vital module on the MakAdvance online portal. The portal was designed to address the lack of a systematic and effective mechanism for tracking, mobilizing and coordinating the alumni to participate in and contribute to various aspects of the university. If you are reading this, I implore you to validate your details on the MakAdvance and join the growing university alumni online database that allows you to communicate with your alma mater in real time. In addition, those validated on the portal are able to donate as little as $5 towards various causes at the university, such as research, scholarship, and development.
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I extend our sincere appreciation to the secretariat team led by Mr. Emmanuel Kitamirike for seeing this idea to fruition. I also thank Mr. Karane Tuhirirwe for providing technical support and Dr. Sara Namusoga-Kaale and her entire editorial committee for spearheading the birth of The Legacy e-newsletter.
As We Build for the Future!
Sincerely,
Dr. Margaret J. Kigozi
